Jose Tejas
About This Spot
Jose Tejas in Fairfield invites you into a vibrant yet laid-back setting where the lively spirit of Tex-Mex meets the soulful heart of New Orleans. As you step inside, there’s an undeniable warmth that sets the tone—a bustle of conversation, laughter, and the clinking of glasses that feels welcoming rather than overwhelming. It’s a space that manages to balance energy with comfort, perfect for both gathering with friends and sitting back after a busy day.
The large dining room offers plenty of room to settle in without feeling crowded, and during warmer months, the option to dine outside makes the experience shift gently into something a bit more relaxed, letting the fresh air mingle with the enticing scents drifting from the kitchen. Whether you’re drawn by the casual buzz or seeking a spot to savor well-balanced flavors, the atmosphere here matches the menu’s vibrant personality.
Speaking of the menu, what stands out is the thoughtful fusion that honors both Tex-Mex tradition and Cajun flair with a friendly twist. It’s rare to find so many satisfying choices that feel adventurous yet approachable—whether it’s the tangy punch of blackened chicken, the freshness of handmade empanadas, or the comforting charm of jambalaya buzzing with vegetables and flavor. There’s an evident passion behind the seasoning and sauces, inviting you to explore each bite without rushing.
For those traveling with family or looking for something a little different, there’s a considerate eye for variety—vegetarian options show the kitchen’s commitment to inclusivity, and the staff’s attentiveness ensures everyone finds their place at the table. Drinks, too, are handled with a genuine care that complements the food without overshadowing it—whether it’s a large, perfectly balanced margarita or a refreshing sangria to share.
With friendly staff navigating busy nights and a space that encourages easy, unpretentious enjoyment, Jose Tejas feels like a spirited neighborhood gathering spot. It’s not just about the food or the mood alone, but how those elements come together to create moments that stick with you—a shared laugh, a well-matched bite, or the simple solace of knowing a good meal and good company are just around the corner.

What a fun place, it has selections for Mexican, New Orleans style, and bbq. Our waitress was great as well. Enjoyed the jambalaya and blackened chicken. Lots of seats and space inside. Free parking lot.

While they’re possibly not as good as prior to Covid, and maybe not as good as the Woodbridge location, this place is still relatively affordable with good food. The carne asada Jim Bowie style and Orleans Fish are excellent choices. In the warmer months you can even sit outside, which is recommended, as inside is always quite loud. Parking is never an issue.

A place with a cool Mexican vibe and delicious food. The restaurant doesn't take reservations, but the venue is large and can accommodate many people, so we didn't have to wait for a table despite the dining room being almost full. It's worth noting that we came in a group of 7, so seating us wasn't easy, yet they found a spot. The kids received a children's menu that also served as a coloring book, and they were given crayons. We received efficient service. The longest wait was for the drinks, as they were served relatively slowly, but this is understandable given the number of guests inside. The margarita, especially the spicy one, is very tasty and highly recommended. We ordered chicken fajitas and beef with sides. Everything was delicious and worth recommending. The only comment and reservation is about the fries for the children, which arrived burnt and the kids didn't like them and didn't want to eat them. However, they praised the breaded chicken. The beef tacos for children, like the fries, did not receive recognition from the youngest ones. What I missed was live Mexican music. I think it could be a nice addition to the atmosphere of the place. A big minus for the lack of phone payment options. We are in the 21st century, and unfortunately, technological backwardness still exists in many places in the USA, which is particularly troublesome for younger generations and tourists. Perhaps this comment will encourage the owners to invest in payment terminals, which I'm keeping my fingers crossed for.

As a vegetarian I was so pleasantly surprised to see so many veggie options. I was also happy with the prices of the food and drinks! I had the veggie jambalaya and it was delicious. Full of veggies with tons of flavor! Many restaurants cannot make good vegetarian food, so I had to leave a review to say that this restaurant can and does!

This place is soooooooo good. My man was working nearby and after smelling it a bunch of times we went inside and it was packed! Everything is intensely flavored . In a good way but if you don’t like bold flavor this isn’t for you…. Even the sides are made with love We got mixed fajitas for two , salmon Caesar, gumbo, quesadilla , rice and beans and fries We had so much left over we had literally no complaints . The white rice is possible similar to a minute rice (par boiled) but since the flavor so good on everything … who really cares !! The gumbo was sooo good we ordered an extra at the table but that wasn’t even enough , my man ordered some to go . Fire
